(Resident detains would be car jacker)…It happened at 5:00 pm Wednesday in Brawley.
Police were conducting a probation compliance check at a residence in the 300 block of south 14th Street. Officers attempted to contact 28-year-old Johnny Tapia, but he fled on foot. As he approached the area of J Street and 13th Street, Tapia attempted to carjack by force a female parked in a truck with her infant child inside. A relative saw what was happening and grabbed Tapia, pulling him from the vehicle and tackling him to the ground. When officers arrived, they took Tapia into custody. He was booked into County Jail, charged with possession of a controlled substance, attempted carjacking and resisting/obstructing a police officer.
