Victims identified

(Fatal injury victims identified)…The 3 men were in a Honda that collided with a semi. The collision was reported at 5:47 Monday evening at Highway 115 and Worthington Road. There were four men in the Honda at the time of the collision. All four were from Brawley. Officials say they were field workers.

They had just finished working in a field at Worthington and Highline and were headed home at the time of the collision. Deputy Coroner Steven Green said the driver of the Honda, 63-year-old Manuel Ortega Cornejo, and two passengers, 25-year-old Justin Cordova Saucedo and 22-year-old Francisco Rico all suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced at the scene. The 4th passenger, 21-year-old Jose Luis Cruz suffered major injuries, He was air lifted by helicopter to Desert Regional Medical center in Palm Springs. The driver of the semi, 38-year-old Juan Carlos Herrera of Santa Maria was not injured. The California Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Traffic was detoured around the scene for over 12 hours as emergency crews and investigators worked the scene over night.
