(Holiday enforcement starts at 6:00 pm.)….The California Highway Patrol will go into their Maximum Enforcement Program.
That is when as many officers as possible are assigned to patrol the roadways. New Year’s is considered a drinking holiday, so they will have a special eye out for drunk or otherwise impaired drivers. Seatbelt violations are also a target during the holidays. The CHP Maximum Enforcement ends at 11:59 pm Wednesday. The Bureau of Land Management is currently conducting DUI Checkpoints. This will continue through January 2nd on unincorporated lands of Imperial County, including the Imperial Sand Dune Recreation Area. It is estimated there are almost 200,000 out of county visitors in the Dunes this year.
