A 32-year old El Centro, California man is in custody after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered 29 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in his car.
The incident occurred at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the Calexico downtown port of entry. CBP officers encountered the man , a U.S. citizen , and referred both the vehicle and the driver for further inspection. A detector dog alerted to the car and further investigation led to the discovery of approximately 29 pounds of meth hidden in the rocker panels of the car. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $435,000. The man was booked into Imperial County Jail pending arraignment.
