(Supervisor declare December 1-7 as Farm Workers Appreciation Week)…Farm Workers are the backbone of the Agricultural Industry.
The Board of Supervisors adopted the resolution Tuesday. The resolution says Farm Workers contribute significantly to the local Agricultural accomplishments by toiling in fields through harsh and extreme weather conditions, growing, harvesting and preparing goods for market and destinations at home and abroad. The special week culminates December 6th with the 34th Annual Farm Worker Appreciation Breakfast. The Breakfast began in 1979 hosted by the Employment Development Department. It provided Coffee and Sweat bread for the Farm Workers. This year’s event is hosted by the EDD, the Center for Employment Training, the City of Calexico, the Calexico Chamber of Commerce, the Consulate of Mexico and the Farm Worker Services Coalition of Imperial County. It is made possible through donations and contributions from growers and contractors, local businesses, agencies and community based organizations. The event not only features a full tamale breakfast, but also information and entertainment. It will be held at the One-Stop Business and Employment Service Center on Heber Avenue from 2:00 am to 6:00 am. They expect over 3,000 farm workers to attend.
