(IID donates to Scout Project)…The Project is to construct a local Veteran’s Memorial Monument.
Joaquin Villegas chose that as his Eagle Scout Project. Villegas is making the rounds trying to raise the funds needed to construct the Monument. He was unable to attend Tuesday Imperial Irrigation District Board of Director’s meeting, but the Board made a donation in his absence. The Board 4-0 to chip in $5,000 to the fund, and contribute in-kind services, if needed. Director Bruce Kuhn had previously agreed to donate $1,000 of his own money to the project. Water Department Manager Jesse Silva said he would be willing to donate engineering services in the construction of the monument, if they are needed. Water and Power may be other in-kind services that could be donated by the District. The County also donated $5,000, and provided Villegas with the land where the monument will be constructed. The City of Imperial donated $10,000 and agreed to provide surveillance cameras and maintenance to the monument once it is constructed. A challenge has been issued to other communities to donate to the ambitious project as well. The residents of the county have also been encouraged to donate what they can.
