Officer shoots attacking dog

(Brawley Police officer shoots a dog)… Police say the officer was responding to a report of a vicious dog.

The Officer was dispatched to the 300 block of West A Street at around 6:45 Wednesday morning. On his way, the officer was flagged down by a witness who told him a pit-bull had just attempted to attack a child walking in the area. The Officer located the animal in the front yard of a residence. He said the pit-bull appeared agitated. The officer called Animal Control, and began walking to the house next door to try and find the owner of the animal. The Pit Bull charged the officer and the officer discharged his weapon, striking the dog. The owner of the animal was found and the dog was transported to a veterinarian’s office for treatment. Police are considering whether charges or citations will be issued against the owner of the dog. Police say the incident occurred near Phil Swing Elementary School.
