(It started as a California preparedness event)….It was organized by the California Office of Emergency Services.
They created the event following the Loma Prieta earthquake 24 years ago. It later turned into the Great American Shakeout. This week, the Shakeout was a worldwide event. Locals, mostly schools around the county, participated in the drill. The students and others learned what to do in case of a major earthquake. Officials at the state OES says the thought currently is not be prepared in case of a major earthquake, but be prepared for when the next major earthquake hits. They say there will be more major earthquakes, it is just a matter of when.
