The 2007-08 Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area seasonal and weekly permits will go on sale Monday, Aug. 20, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office has announced
Seasonal permits, good from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2008, are $90. Seven-day weekly permits cost $25. Both are available as follows:
· Online at imperialsanddunes.org
· By calling toll-free 1 (800) 278-0165
· From businesses listed on the website
· From Sheriff's Office personnel at the dunes during holiday weekends who accept credit card and debit card payments in addition to cash transactions
· From vendors on site at the Glamis & Buttercup areas
Please allow two weeks delivery time for permits ordered by phone or online.
About 20,000 seasonal permits and 65,000 weekly permits were sold for the 2006-07 season and the Sheriff’s Office expects that number to be reached or exceeded during the 2007-08 season. The agency also sold special edition seasonal permits at the Sand Sports Super Show held Sept. 14-16 in Costa Mesa.
The permits are required for all primary vehicles that access the dunes area, including both the Glamis and Buttercup areas. Violators face a citation and a fine of $100 for not having, or properly displaying, a valid permit.
The funds raised from the permit system, which is operated in conjunction with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, go to the Sheriff’s Recreation Enforcement Division for use back in the dunes. The division is very active in helping make the dunes a safe and fun experience for all visitors.
The 2007-08 permits are designed for quick recognition by enforcement officers. This makes enforcement less intrusive for dunes visitors and also makes it easier for visitors to display the correct permit.
The imperialsanddunes.org website is a service of the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and is your source of information for a variety of dunes-related matters. |
