State contingent leaves for Central America

(Legislative contingent leaves for Central America)…The California legislators are all Democrats.

Two state Senators and 4 Assembly members. During the 9 day tour the Legislators will visit El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama. The main concern is the current immigration problem, but the group will also discuss trade and investment with the Central American leaders. The contingent is being led by Senate President Pro-Tem Darrell Steinberg. Also participating is State senator Ellen Corbett and Assembly members Manuel Perez, Jose Medina of Riverside, Henry Perea of Fresno and Luis Alejo of Watsonville. Because his District includes the California/Mexico border, Perez was chosen to lead the talks on the Immigration Issues. The trip is expected to wrap-up July 23rd.
