(Fire at ECRMC)…It was reported Wednesday.

Apparently a contract employee was performing state mandated work at the hospital. A spark from that work caused the roof to catch fire. El Centro Fire Department responded to the fire and they were able to extinguish it before it could enter the attic. El Centro Regional Medical Center CEO Dr. Adolphe Edwards said 24 patients were evacuated for the North and South wings of the hospital and relocated upstairs. No patients were harmed. The North and South wings of the hospital will remain closed until they are assessed and determined to be safe. The CEO says the incident does not hamper the hospital’s ability to care for patients. He said the capability to take care of COVID patients is fully intact.
