(Almost 800 pounds of Marijuana seized)….It was found at the Calexico East Port of Entry.
A 1996 Freightliner entered the Cargo Facility at the Port this week. The semi was pulling a supposed empty trailer. The truck was referred to a more detailed search. During the examination, Customs and Border Protection Officers used the port’s imaging system and they observed anomalies within the front wall of the empty trailer. A canine team was dispatched to search the trailer and the detector dog alerted to the wall. Officers searched the wall and discovered 32 large wrapped bundles stacked inside a non-factory compartment of the empty trailer. The bundles field tested positive for marijuana. The bundles weighed 798 pounds. The street value of the marijuana was set at around $320,000. The driver of the rig, identified only as a 30 year old male Mexican Citizen and resident of Mexicali, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigation Agents for further processing. The CBP seized the marijuana, tractor and trailer.
