(Sheriff’s Deputies to wear Body Cams)….A grant to purchase the body cameras has been approved.
The Bureau of Justice Assistance, part of the US Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, has awarded the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office a Body-Worn Camera Pilot Implementation Program Grant in the amount of $74,770. The OJP guidelines and requirements were a competitive and stringent process. The OJP received 285 applications. California was awarded with six grants. The local Sheriff’s Office was one of the recipients. It is believed the cameras will uphold the transparency and strengthen accountability with law enforcement and the public. They did not say how cameras will be purchased, or when the Deputies will begin using them.
