(Las Primeras Honorees introduced)….The 3 will officially be honored at the 2015 Las Primeras Awards Gala and Scholarship Fundraiser in October.
The MANA de Imperial Valley every year hosts the Gala and Fundraiser, recognizing Latinas in the Valley who are role-models to the community, while raising funds for scholarships and other educational activities and events. This year the Honorees were introduced in Brawley. They include Maria Elena Nava-Froelich, Mayor Pro-tem for the City of Calipatria and Migrant Education Coordinator for the Calipatria Unified School District. Lorena Lacar, Veteran’s Services Representative for the Imperial County Veteran’s Services office. The third Honoree this year is Haydee Rodriguez, a National Board Certified teacher of Social Studies at Central Union High School and a commissioner of the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing. Nominees are selected by members of the community. The nominees are submitted to MANA, where they are reviewed by a committee, who then selects the top three nominees
