Early Wednesday morning El Centro Police officers responded to the 1700 block of Euclid Avenue after several 9-1-1 calls.

When officers arrived on the scene they saw a man in the drivers seat of a pick up truck and a woman standing outside the truck arguing with the man. According to Commander Robert Sawyer of the El Centro Police Department ,as officers approached the truck , the driver shifted to reverse , backed out of the parking space and sped out of the parking lot , narrowly missing a police car. The pick up truck driver , identifies as Angel Aguilar , 25 , of El Centro , went eastbound on Euclid Avenue , ran a red light at Euclid and Imperial Avenue , went out of control and struck a tree outside a residence in the 1400 block of Euclid , trapping Aguilar in the wreckage. While waiting for the paramedics to arrive , the truck started to burn. Officers used fire extinguishers to control the fire and broke out windows to pull Aguilar to safety. Aguilar was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center and then flown to another hospital for specialized treatment. Aguilar is facing charges of felony spousal abuse , resisting and delaying a police officer and felony evading arrest.

According to Commander Sawyer , The Imperial Police Department responded to assist ECPD officers. Sawyer added that ECPD will post a video of the arrest on their Facebook page.
