(Jail over-crowding in Riverside County)….The County has come up with a plan.
Send the overflow to Imperial County. The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved the plan this week. The first transfer is expected to be about three dozen inmates. Riverside County Sheriff’s officials said they first tried to reach a deal with San Bernardino County, but they did not want any new inmates. They said Imperial County was receptive. According to the contract with Imperial County, up to 35 inmates will be housed at a cost of $82.83 per day per inmate. The contract will allow Riverside County to meet its realignment obligations, and it will help them to do something other than release inmates out into the public. The Sheriff’s officials said this was not a long-term solution to the problem.
