(Danny Villanueva has died)…He was 77 at the time of his death.
Villanueva was a graduate of Calexico High School, and attending New Mexico State on a scholarship. He graduated in 1961, and was drafted into the NFL. He was a kicker for the Los Angeles Rams and the Dallas Cowboys, before retiring in 1967. After football began a broadcast career with KNBC in Los Angeles. He also invested in a chain of Spanish language television stations. He was part owner of that chain, that eventually evolved into Univision. He returned to the Imperial Valley to invest in the original RV Park at Sunbeam Lake. He was a philanthropists who funded several scholarships at New Mexico State. Villanueva believed that everyone deserved an education. He was a member of the National Hispanic Hall of Fame.
