(CHP releases details on weekend fatal collision)….The collision was reported at 5:30 Saturday evening.
It occurred at the intersection of Keystone Road and Highway 86. The California Highway Patrol says 24-year-old Cecilia Fausto of Niland was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla Northbound on Highway 86, approaching Keystone Road, in the #2 lane. The Highway Patrol says she was approaching a red traffic light. 40-year-old David Bravo of El Centro was driving a 1985 Kenworth Tractor towing two trailers full of sugar beets. He was on his way to Spreckles Sugar, southbound on Highway 86, in the left turn lane, intending to make a left hand turn onto eastbound Keystone. The CHP says Bravo entered the intersection legally on a green left turn arrow and started the left hand turn. They say the Toyota failed to stop for the red traffic light and skidded into the intersection, colliding with the right side of the Kenworth. The Highway Patrol says the impact caused approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel to spill onto the roadway and puddle on the northwest corner of the intersection. The driver of the Toyota suffered major injuries and was flown to UCSD Medical center in San Diego for treatment. 29-year-old Dulce Katzenstein of Mexicali was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment. An 11-year-old child from Mexicali was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 50 year old Cecilia Fausto of Niland was also transported to PMH, where she was pronounced deceased. Bravo suffered minor injuries but declined treatment.
