(ABP Loans)…. The loans are part of the Agricultural Benefits Program.
The Board of Supervisors approved a Public Benefits Program resolution for use with solar power plants in Imperial County. Part of that Program is the Agricultural Benefit Program, which is intended to offset the temporary use of farmland for solar projects and is funded by per acre payments from participating projects. Funds collected to date, including interest, total $6.9 million. The Agricultural Benefit Advisory committee was created for the purpose of recommending to the Board of Supervisors specific elements and establishment of procedures for allocating funds under the Program. Such uses include, but are not limited to, stewardship. Protection, and enhancement of agricultural lands within the Imperial County; tools, technology, and techniques for protection of agriculture commodities or increase of crop yields; and support of programs or projects that increase the agricultural industry employment opportunities. Tuesday the Supervisors approved documents, terms and authorized the release of Request for Proposals under the Program for loans related to the Agriculture Business Development, Research and Development and Stewardship categories.
