(A legend in agriculture laid to rest)…Claude Finnell passed away earlier this month.
He was just days away from his 90th birthday. The World War two veteran served as Imperial County Ag Commissioner from 1954 until his retirement in 1987. A highly religious man, Finnell was a leader in agriculture, influencing state and federal pesticide regulations as well as pest eradication. He was one of the creators of the Valley Ag Growers Association, and a long time member of the local Farm Bureau. His successor as A Commissioner, Steve Birdsall called Finnell a real mover and shaker. A celebration of life was held Wednesday at the First Christian Church in El Centro. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery.
