Early morning arrest

(El Centro Police called out early Friday morning.)…It was a stolen vehicle call.

The report was the vehicle had just been stolen at 460 West State Street in El Centro. The victim told officers the suspect was a Hispanic male and he had just taken his 2012 Dodge Pickup and fled northbound on 5th Street, towards Main Street. Officers checked the area and found the pickup at 5th and Adams. The police attempted to make a traffic stop, but the pickup fled away. A pursuit ensued, reaching speeds up to 50 miles per hour. The chase ended in the 1000 block of Commercial after the pickup crashed through the chain link fence at Lincoln Elementary School. The suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Douglas Julian Lee of Riverside, fled on foot. Officers set up a perimeter with the assistance of the Imperial Police and County Sheriff’s. A canine officer with the El Centro Police Department also responded to the scene. As the search continued, the suspect attempted to flee, but was detained by a Sheriff’s Deputy. Lee was booked into County Jail for felony auto theft, felony evading police and hit and run.
