(Town Hall meeting a success)….Interim Police Chief Michael Bostic was happy with the event.
The Calexico interim Police Chief held the public meeting Thursday evening in Rodney Auditorium at San Diego State University/Calexico Campus. Bostic said he felt the Town Hall format was the best was to keep the public informed, especially with all the misinformation on social media. About 75 Calexico resident turned out to hear what the interim Chief had to say and ask questions. Bostic spoke on the investigations underway at the Border City Police Department. He said the investigations, including the FBI investigation were still active and could take up to six months to complete. He said procedures had to be followed, and everybody’s rights had to be respected. He did say two police officers have been fired, 2 are on leave, and others have been demoted. He said over 30 complaints within the Department are being investigated. They are also looking into rampant over-time, complaints of threats and intimidation, and he said an officer involved shooting has to be reinvestigated by the Sheriff’s office. He said they were also looking into abuse of injury and sick leave, as well as fake background investigations. Bostic said the Town Hall meetings would be scheduled periodically to keep the community informed.
