Weights and measures week

(Little known group celebrating special week)…They are celebrating but educating the public.

 The California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta gets underway Friday, The Blue Angels Air Show is March 10^th. What many do not know is that the week is also National Weights and Measures Week. It runs through March 7^th. National Chairman Kurt Floren says the theme this year is appropriate. “Taking Measure of our Worth.” He said with funding reductions for weights and measures agencies, the result will be undetected inaccuracies, whether intentional or not, which will adversely affect consumers and honest businesses. Connie Valenzuela is the County Agriculture Commissioner. She is also Sealer for Weights and Measures. She says the agency is responsible for ensuring gas pumps, computerized check-out devices and much more are accurate and do not over-charge or under charge consumers. Valenzuela says the special week will be spent educating the public on what to look for, how to protect themselves and how to report suspected inaccuracies.
