Mayors meet

(Border Mayors meet in Tijuana.)…The meeting was hosted by Tijuana Mayor Carlos Bustamante at the World Trade Center in Tijuana.

 The 17 member group was formed last August in El Paso, Texas. The group this year is co-chaired by Bustamante and El Paso Mayor John Cook. 12 of the members attended this week’s meeting. The major concerns were the border economy and the interdependence of the US and Mexican border Communities. The over-all conclusion at the meeting was that whatever they do, they must work together if they expect any success. Mexicali Mayor Francisco Perez Tejada said they have to work in zones, such as Tijuana and San Diego and Mexicali and the Imperial Valley. He said the rules have to be clear, especially for those who are interested in investing.
