(65th Holtville Carrot Festival is underway)….The 10-day event began Friday.

 During the annual Banquet at the Barbara Worth Resort Ron and Joan Thornburg were honored as the 2012 Citizens of the Year. Also during the event, the royalty was crowned. Michaela Hernandez was named Carrot Festival Queen. Emily Acosta was named Princess and Brooke Butler is the new Jr. Princess. The 3rd Annual Music Fest and car show was held at Hot Rods and Beer Saturday night. Sunday 100’s enjoyed the Rotary Club’s No Bones About It BBQ at Holt Park. Today the Cookery contests get underway. The contests are held at the Civic Center, with a different category through Friday, February 10th. The initial categories tonight are the Little Chef and Junior Chef/Miscellaneous Division and the Middle School and High School Divisions. All entries must be prepared using carrots as a basic ingredient. Tuesday the category will be Adult salad, Vegetable and Main Dish Division. The Carnival Mid-Way hits town Thursday afternoon. The Parade will be held Saturday.
