(A unique Town Hall meeting)….It was held Monday evening in Calexico.
It was hosted by the Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services. It was unique in that the hosts did not provide information. The purpose was to listen to comments from the community. The Feds wanted to hear what the community thought of the Police Department, specifically how they could improve communication and create a better relationship with the community. It was part of a collaborative reform initiative the DOJ had entered with the City of Calexico, at the urging of interim Police Chief Michael Bostic. Findings from that initiative are expected to be released in a report at the end of the year. Only about 12 community residents spoke during the Town Hall meeting. Comments dealt with eliminating political meddling in the Police Department, improved communication and increased community involvement.
