(Single vehicle collision results in fuel spill)…The vehicle was a Freightliner tractor pulling a trailer.
The California Highway Patrol says 41-year-old Jorge Garcia of Mexicali was driving the rig northbound on Highway 86 at just after 9:00 pm Tuesday. The CHP says the driver allowed the rig to drift off the roadway south of Air Park Road. Garcia turned to the left, over-corrected, and re-entered the Northbound lanes. The Highway Patrol says the driver lost control and the rig over-turned onto its right side. The CHP says both the right and left fuel tanks ruptured, spilling between 150 and 200 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway and partially onto the dirt shoulder. Due to the spill of hazardous material, the roadway was shut down and traffic was diverted to the center median. Cal Trans responded and controlled traffic and managed the clean up, which took several hours. No injuries were reported.
