The Imperial Solar Energy Center West is producing power.
The Tenaska project , along Interstate 8 near Plaster City , is now producing approximately 50 megawatts of power from a completed portion of the solar project. According to Tenaska , construction activity is peaking , with more than 850 construction workers on site.
Work began on the interconnection facility in June of 2014 and when completed there will be more than 1.8 million photovoltaic panels capable of producing up to 150 megawatts of alternative energy. That's enough to power more than 55,000 homes. The energy produced is contracted to San Diego Gas and Electric Company under a 25-year agreement.
