(Supervisors enthusiastically support Freedom Fest)…Gene Brister, Chairman of the Freedom Fest 2013 Committee, went before the Board Tuesday.

Brister told the Supervisors Freedom Fest began in 1991, held every year on the Campus of Imperial Valley College. He said every year it is one of, if not the largest single day event held in Imperial County. He said the event draws over 60,000 people in and around the IVC campus in the 4 and a half hours it is held. The Supervisors agreed the event has turned into a 4th of July tradition for Imperial County. Brister said last year over 330 countywide volunteers and numerous agencies, including the Imperial County Reserves, Imperial County Sheriff Explorers, Imperial County Fire Department, Imperial County Sheriff Posse and Imperial County Public Works Department, came together to make the event possible. FM 107.5 and KXO AM 1230 present the family event on behalf of the Imperial Chamber of Commerce. Brister said his committee has already been holding organizational meetings in preparation for the 23rd Annual Freedom Fest July 4th Celebration.
