(Human smuggler and convicted sex offender)…They were arrested Tuesday.
It happened at around 9:52 am. A roving Border Patrol agent pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 8, near Ocotillo. The agent suspect human smuggling. Inside the vehicle the agent found the driver, a 44 year old US citizen and five passengers. It was determined the passengers were in the US illegally. All six were taken to an immigration rally point for processing. A records check determined the driver had been previously convicted for sex with a minor 3 plus years younger out of Santa Monica in 1999. He had been sentenced to 18 months in jail. The driver was arrested and charged with human smuggling. The five adult male passengers, all Mexican Nationals, were deported back to Mexico. The Border Patrol says this is the second similar event within two weeks.
