(County critical of Navy Draft EIS)….Public comment on the document ends May 7th.

The Navy F-35C West Coast Home-Basing Draft Environmental Impact Statement was put together to help the Navy decide where to locate the squadron, at the Naval Air Facility, El Centro or at the Lemoore Naval Air Station in Kings County. The local coalition organized to push for NAF, told the Board of Supervisors the Draft EIS was flawed. In the first few paragraphs, the document names Lemoore as the Navies preferred sight. They said it made an assumption, and then worked backwards to substantiate the claim. The Coalition and the County said they used false information in their efforts. They say the EIS made the NEPA process fatally flawed by pre-determining Lemoore as the preferred  site. Nepa, they say, is to consider environmental factors and then pick the best alternative for the environment. They say the Draft EIS provided false information regarding El Centro. Other incorrect information included the air quality issues, the Land Use/Noise issues, Socioeconomic Issues and Traffic Issues. The letter will be drafted and signed by all 5 Supervisors, who also said they would send individual comments, as well. The Coalition will do the same. They encouraged other governmental entities, City Councils, etc. and Businesses , as well as local residents to also send comments to the Navy concerning the Draft EIS, and supporting locating the Squadron in Imperial County, where the Navy has said it will train, even if it is based at Lemoore.
