A traffic accident early Tuesday morning resulted in the closure of eastbound Interstate 8 at Highway 115.
The accident occurred at 5:50 A.M. when a tractor trailer rig driven by 56-year old Robert M. Tovar of Yuma, Arizona drifted off the freeway while travelling eastbound. Tovar overcorrected causing the big rig to roll over in the middle of the eastbound lanes. Tovar sustained major head injuries and was flown to UCSD Medical Center by REACH Air Ambulance. The eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed for 3 hours. The collision is still under investigation.
