(Copper thieves strike again)…Mario Escalera says they have never really stopped. Escalera, with the Imperial Irrigation District, recently told the County Board of Supervisors that it is not only copper the thieves are stealing. He said aluminum and other metals are targets, as well. The latest theft came in El Centro this week. Over 600 feet of copper and insulation was stolen from a location in the 1200 block of North Imperial Avenue. The value was set at around $1,500. The IID has an active campaign to apprehend the metal thieves. The campaign offers rewards for information leading to arrests. Escalera said the District is serious about prosecuting the metal thieves to the fullest extent possible. The District has more information about the campaign against copper theft on their website.
