(Committee recommends plan be implemented sooner)…It is a water apportionment plan.

It was recommended by the recently formed Water Conservation Committee to help the Imperial Irrigation District better manage the Colorado River allotted water. The Committee met Wednesday and recommended the apportionment plan be implemented May 1. It had been anticipated the plan would go into effect in June or July. The latest recommendation would give the District a month to put a functional plan together. The plan needs to include a payback of 62,000 acre-feet of water this year and approximately 170,000 acre-feet in 2014 from past overruns. The committee is expected to continue to meet and discuss the specifics of an apportionment plan, to be presented to the IID directors.
