(One dead in single vehicle roll-over)…2 others were flown to UCSD in serious condition.

The incident caused the California Highway Patrol to close the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8, from Jacumba to Ocotillo, for over 3 hours, at 5:30 Wednesday evening. The eastbound lanes remained closed until 9:30 that night. According to reports, Border Patrol agents had stopped the vehicle on the Interstate, but as the agent approached the vehicle, it sped away. The agent tried to catch the vehicle that was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour. The Border Patrol agent said he witnessed the vehicle round a curve on the mountain grade, drift off the pavement and begin to roll. One of the passengers was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were flown to a San Diego area hospital. Their condition at UCSD is not known. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the Wednesday evening rollover.
