(Mexico announced the arrest of the countries powerful teachers union)…The announcement was made Wednesday.

 Elba Esther Gordillo was reportedly arrested at the Toluca airport, after flying in from San Diego. She is accused of embezzling and illegally funneling $160 million from the National Union of Education Workers into U.S. and European bank accounts. She has a strong San Diego connection. The Union Tribune newspaper is reporting that Gordillo had purchased two homes in Coronado, one valued at $4.7 million. She paid for medical treatment and a Neiman Marcus credit card. All purchases and expenditures were made under a corporate name. She is currently in custody in Mexico City.
