(Investigation continuing in Border shooting)…Law Enforcement in Mexicali has identified the victims.
They say a new Honda pick-up was being driven by 67 year old Oswaldo Guillermo Reyes Mora at close to two Tuesday afternoon. He was in line to cross the Border at the Downtown Calexico Port of Entry. The front seat passenger in the vehicle has been identified as 32 year old Genaro Benjamin Zamudio Urias. A female passenger in the rear seat of the vehicle was only identified as Yadira. Officials say the two men are related. They say a late model Honda sedan pulled up in the SENTRI lane, a young man with a .22 caliber gun got out, went to the pick-up and fired at least 8 shots at the two in the front seat. The victims were wounded in the arms and legs. Officials say the wounds were not life threatening. The woman was not shot. There are conflicting reports about the suspect. Some say he fled on foot to the Downtown Mexicali area, others say he got back into the sedan, which fled the scene. The sedan was later found abandoned on Avenida Vicente Guerrero. The police investigation has determined the female passenger in the pick-up had been kidnapped last year, and was released by her captors after a ransom was paid. Police re-routed traffic to the east port while they investigated the shooting. Traffic began to flow back into the Downtown Port at around 4:50 Tuesday afternoon.
