Couple busted at checkpoint

(Border Patrol agents find cocaine and meth)…The discovery was made Thursday morning.

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents were working the Highway 86 checkpoint. At just after 7:00 am a couple drove into the checkpoint in a Mercedes Benz. A 33-year-old woman was driving. A 24-year-old male was the passenger. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle, and it was referred to the secondary inspection area. During the search of the vehicle, agents found 45 vacuum-sealed bundles of methamphetamine and one bundle of cocaine hidden inside the vehicle’s fuel tank. The meth had a combined weight of 52.2 pounds, with a street value of $522,000. The cocaine weighed 11.2 ounces, with an estimated value of $14,560. The couple, both US citizens, the vehicle and the narcotics were all turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
