The Imperial County Public Health Department has confirmed that a fifth person has died due to COVID-19 complications.

The patient was reported to be an elderly individual with multiple underlying health issues. The individual was initially hospitalized in Baja California but was transferred to an Imperial Valley healthcare facility and passed away. Paula Kriner , the Health Departments Epidemiology Manager commended the cooperation of Baja California health officials in a binational investigation that was required to gather information about the case. Kriner said , " This collaboration highlights the Department's ongoing partnership with Baja California health officials as well as our unified mission to protect the health and safety of those on both sides of the border." 

As of Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. there 131 active cases of COVID-19 in Imperial County. 59 individuals have recovered from the virus and 5 people have died. A total of 1,256 patients have been tested and there have been 1,062 negative test results.
