El Centro Police Chief Brian Johnson has announced his retirement.

Chief Johnson has led the El Centro Police Department since April of 2018. Prior to coming to El Centro, Johnson served as Chief of the Upland, California police department and served with the Los Angeles Police Department prior to that. The retirement is effective as of July 29, 2022. City Manager Marcela Piedra said that a search for a new chief will begin immediately. El Centro will also be looking for a permanent Fire Chief. Cedric Cesena has been serving as interim chief for the past year.
