A day to recognize the legendary Farm Labor leader. It is a unique holiday, a little different than most other holidays. Nationally, it is a comemorative holiday. A day to remember Cesar Chavez. In California, it is a full fledged holiday, even though schools are in session, and not all businesses are closed. The County is recognizing the day. It marks the day Cesar Chavez was born, on March 31, 1927 in Yuma, Arizona.. Chavez passed away on April 23, in San Luis Arizona. Chavez was a legendary advocate for farm workers. Along with Dolores Huerta, they founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers.
