(Governor signs executive order)…It is to assist Elections Officials.

Governor Gavin Newsom signed the order Wednesday. The order extends the deadline for county elections officials to count and verify signatures submitted for initiative petitions seeking to qualify for the November 2022 ballot. It is designed to give the elections officials the flexibility needed to focus on preparations for the General Election in November. The Governor says the order builds ongoing work with the Legislature, the Secretary of State and county elections officials to ensure that Californians can exercise their right to vote in a safe, secure and accessible manner, including legislation establishing special procedures for the upcoming election and ensuring Californians registered to vote are mailed a ballot.
