(Suspect fatally shot)...It was reported earlier this month in the Otay Mountains.

Border Patrol agents were conducting operations in the Puebla Tree area, about five miles east of the Otay Meza Port of Entry. The Border Patrol Tactical Unit was monitoring the area after receiving reports of armed robberies and assaults targeting groups of migrants crossing into the United States. A small group of BORTAC agents were concealed about 70 yards north of the Border fence.. Additional BORTAC agents, with a precision marksman, were positioned on higher ground. A group of migrants were walking along a paved road, when they were approached by 4 individuals. One of the individuals pulled a handgun and demanded money from the migrants. The individual chambered a round into his pistol and pointed the weapon at one of the migrants. A single shot rang out and the individual fell to the ground. It was determined the shot was fired by the BORTAC precision marksman. Effotrs were made to revive the individual, but to no avail. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased individual was identified as a 32 year old male citizen of Mexico. The incident is being investigated by the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, the FBI and the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility.
