A semi-truck and trailer pulled up to the Hwy 86 checkpoint Thursday evening. Border Patrol agents become suspicious after a k-9 alerted to the vehicle. The semi was sent to the secondary inspection area. Agents used a scanner to determine the contents of the trailer. They noticed anomalies on top of pallets of soda. Agents opened the trailer and found four boxes near the rear of the tractor-trailer. The agents found multiple vacuum sealed packages in the boxes. It was determined the packages contained methamphetamine. The packages weighed over 250 pounds, with an estimated value of over $450,000. The driver, a 43 yearl old permanent resident, the vehicle and narcotics were all turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. The seizure was part of Operation Apollo. The Operation is a joint regional operation comprised of federal, state and local agencies working to combat the threat of fentanyl and other illicit synthetic narcotics.
