(California Highway Patrol)....They are coming off one Maximum Enforcement Period.

They are getting ready for another one. A Maximum Enforcement Period is the CHP's statewide holiday enforcement. They assign as many officers as possibly to patrol the roadways. The effort is an attempt to keep the roadways as safe as possible. During the Christmas MEP statewide, the Highway Patrol reported 20 fatal injury incidents. During the period they arrested 900 motorists for driving under the influence. The New Year's Holiday MEP starts at 6:01 Friday evening and continues through 11:59 Monday night. They are asking motorist not to become a statistic. Drive safe. Obey the traffic laws, and never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
