(Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of shots fired)....The County Sheriff's Office received multiple calls of a disturbance on Tank Road in the Slabs near Niland.

The calls came in at 4:28 Sunday afternoon. One caller said they heard shots fired. Another caller said they had seen 45 year old Latoya Rodgers and 36 year old Darnell Mercer shooting at people. Deputies arrived at the camp and ordered the suspects to come out of their trailer. Rodgers was uncooperative and initially refused to exit the trailer. After about an hour of negotiations, she finally came out. Deputies placed the woman in custody. She told deputies Mercer was not in the trailer. Deputies searched the trailer. They did not find the male suspect, but they did find several firearms, high-capacity magazines, crates of ammunition, and military grade ordinance. The search continued, and Mercer was finally found hiding in a makeshift septic tank. He was taken into custody and, along with Rodgers, was booked into County Jail. Both were charged with Assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, resisting arrest and negligent discharge of a firearm. The US Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal Personnel responded to the scene and helped remove and take custody of the military ordinance.. Earlier this month, both suspects were involved in a pursuit. At the time, deputies were able to locate the vehicle but Mercer and Rodgers had fled. The vehicle was stored after a search resulted in the discovery of a .22 caliber revolver, several cell phones, several high capacity magazines, live ammunition, brass and suspected methamphetamine.
