(County Board of Supervisors discuss AB 918)... The bill was recently passed by the state legislature and sent to the Governor's office.

It was authored by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia and would create a single healthcare district in Imperial County. The County Board of Supervisors discussed the bill at their meeting this week. They wound up changing their position on the bill. On a 3-1 vote, the Supervisors agreed to oppose the bill. The county is sending a letter to the Governor asking that he veto the bill. This comes on the heels of a similar letter sent to the Governor's office by the Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District. All agree with the concept, but they say the Garcia bill is one sided, and does not include issues of concern by PMHD or even residents in the north county as no workshops or other attempts to gather public input were held. Garcia claims negative comments on his bill are not credible.
