A crime spree that crossed over state and county lines ended Saturday in El Centro.

At about 11:37 a.m. Saturday, an El Centro Police Officer on patrol was flagged-down by an employee of the Ulta Beauty store on Dannenberg Road. The employee told the officer that a theft had just occurred and that one of the suspects was running north from the store. The suspect was detained. It was determined that another suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a blue Kia. El Centro police notified north end law enforcement agencies and the U.S. Border Patrol to be on the lookout for the car. Investigating officers were able to learn that there had been a similar theft at the Ulta Store in Yuma about an hour earlier.

At about 12:15 p.m. Saturday, El Centro Police were notified by U.S. Border Patrol agents that the driver of the blue Kia was detained at the Highway 86 Checkpoint near Salton City. The suspect was returned to El Centro.

Further investigation led to officers learning that the first suspect, Dalin Morton, 24, had several outstanding warrants from San Bernardino County. The second suspect, 31-year-old Loren Richmond, has outstanding warrants out of Monterey and Ventura County. It was also learned that the getaway car had been stolen in San Bernardino. The pair were booked into Imperial County Jail on charges including Burglary, Grand Theft, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Conspiracy, and Receiving Stolen Property. An estimated $18,000 worth of merchandise was returned to Ulta. The investigation continues.
