(California Highway Patrol Maximum Enforcement Period)......The MEP covered the recent 4th of July Holiday weekend.

It began just after 6 pm Friday June 30th and ended at just before mid-night July 4th. During that period in Imperial County, the Highway Patrol recorded 2 property damage only collisions, 4 minor injury collisions, 1 major injury collision, 1 fatal injury collision and 2 DUI arrests. Statewide, 68 people were killed in traffic collisions. The CHP says tragically, nearly half of those were not wearing their seatbelts. CHP officers statewide issued more than 9,700 speed citations during the Independence Day Weekend. 1,224 were arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
