A stubborn brush fire is burning near Laguna Dam.

What has been named the West Main Fire has burned an estimated 900 acres by mid-Frida afternoon. The fire started Thursday morning about 9 miles north of Yuma, Arizona and is burning actively along the Colorado River. The blaze crossed into California just north of Laguna Dam. The fire is fueled by dense vegetation such as salt cedar and phragmites. The fire is currently burning on lands managed by the Bureau of Reclamation, Fort Yuma tribal lands and Wildlife area. No homes are being threatened but Bureau of Reclamation infrastructure and facilities are at high risk. Several roads in the area on both sides of the river are closed. The fire is being managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. As of late Friday there was zero percent containment. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for heat related issues.
